I bought this book in Mekah. The six fitnesses in Islamic living are spiritual, psychological, mental, social, physical and financial. I was particularly interested in spiritual and psychological (from Islamic point of view) fitnesses as they are not widely covered by the western authors.

The author outlines in details (with relevant quotations from Al-Quran dan hadiths) on how to acquire spiritual fitness :
1. Sincerity
2. Staying away from sins
3. Voluntary worship in addition to obligatory worship
4. Reciting the Quran with meditation
5. Remembrance of Allah (dhikr Allah)
6. Repentance
7. Crying out of fear of Allah
8. Abstinence from worldly life
9. Hunger and frugality in life
10. Being mindful of death and the brevity of life
11. Between hope and fear

He also shares 25 ways to overcome anxiety :
1. Do not obsess over something that has not occurred
2. Keep busy
3. Do not relive past mistakes
4. Be content with predestination
5. Do not concerned with trivialities
6. Choose your ideas carefully
7. Transform the negative into positive
8. Count Allah’s blessings
