Highlights of Day 2 IDF : Looking ahead 5–10 years, advances in diabetes treatment that has improved life expectancy are likely to bring a new wave of diabetes-related complications and comorbidities. Beyond traditional microvascular and cardiovascular complications, we may increasingly encounter dementia, sarcopenia and frailty, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), and several cancers associated with diabetes, including postmenopausal breast, liver, colorectal, endometrial (uterine), gallbladder and pancreatic cancers.
The challenge ahead is no longer simply helping people with diabetes live longer, but ensuring they live longer with better health, function and quality of life.
